Brothers Jailed for Brutal Mum Murder Attempt in Newcastle
Two brothers who blasted a sawn-off shotgun through a kitchen window in a deadly attack on a mother have been locked up for 24 years each. Thomas and James Lee terrorised Newcastle with two shootings over just 48 hours in 2019.
Shotgun Blast Shatters Mum’s Home
On October 3, the Lees fired through the kitchen window of a home on Fordmoss Walk, Westerhope, following a suspected row with the victim’s son. The mum was cooking when the blast shattered glass and shotgun pellets tore into her back, arm, and face, causing serious injuries.
Second Shooting Follows Two Days Later
In the early hours of October 5, the brothers struck again, firing a shotgun at a man in his flat on St Keverne Square after another dispute. The victim suffered wounds to his ear and calf but survived. Despite attempts, the brothers were cleared of attempting to murder this second victim but found guilty of wounding with intent.
Harsh Justice After Violent Crime Spree
- Thomas, 21, homeless, also convicted of firearm possession, assault on emergency worker, and racially aggravated disorderly behaviour.
- James, 27, from South Shields, admitted dangerous driving during a police chase after the shootings.
Both were convicted at Newcastle Crown Court in October 2021 and sentenced recently to 24 years each.
“Guns are not toys,” said Detective Chief Inspector Jane Fairlamb, Northumbria Police. “They knowingly pulled the trigger to try and kill a mum and injure another man. Newcastle is safer with them behind bars.”
She added, “Under Operation Sentinel, we will keep fighting serious violent crime and delivering justice for victims.”
