Man Arrested for Threatening to Torch Nottingham Police Station

Just after midnight on Monday, Nottingham police were alerted to a fire threat at Central Police Station. A caller claimed nine police cars were outside Byron House in the city centre and threatened to set them and the station ablaze.

Suspect Tracked and Arrested in New Basford

Officers raced to the scene and scoured the area but found no sign of the suspect. Police later traced the caller to a property in New Basford, where a 36-year-old man was hauled in on suspicion of threatening criminal damage.

Racial Abuse Lands Man Additional Charges

During his arrest, the man launched a racist tirade at officers, targeting one male officer in particular. He faces further charges for racially aggravated public disorder.

“Arson can have catastrophic consequences and that is why we treated this threat extremely seriously,” said Sergeant Mark Marriott of Nottinghamshire Police. “It is completely unacceptable for anyone to subject our officers to verbal abuse. It is not simply part of an officer’s job and will never be tolerated by Nottinghamshire Police.”
