Community Outraged as Local Icon Vanishes

Locals are devastated by the loss of a century-old fixture. Margaret Collings lamented:

“It’s heartbreaking that someone would steal a piece of our history. That post box has stood here longer than most of us.”

John Marchant added:

“More than a post box, it symbolised our community’s heritage.”

Why the Post Box is Worth a Fortune

The century-old King Edward VII cast iron post box is a prized collector’s item. Its unique royal cypher and intricate embossed design make it highly valuable, with similar boxes fetching thousands at auction.

Experts warn the distinct royal insignia will make it hard for thieves to sell openly. Police have alerted antiques dealers and online marketplaces to watch for suspicious listings.

Police Urge Owners to Protect Precious Heritage

In response to this and other heritage crimes in the South East, Kent Police advise:

  • Install CCTV around valuable historic items.
  • Mark artefacts with unique identifiers.
  • Report suspicious behaviour immediately.

The theft highlights a worrying trend of targeting rare public artefacts. The community’s vigilance is key to safeguarding local history.

Investigation Ongoing – Police Still on the Trail

Officers continue to follow leads and link this theft to similar cases. Police urge anyone with information to come forward promptly. Your tip could bring this irreplaceable post box back home and help preserve Edenbridge’s heritage.
