Man Shot by Secret Service Near White House After Armed Standoff

Midnight Shooting Shakes Washington D.C.

A man was left seriously injured after being shot by U.S. Secret Service agents just five minutes from the White House. The dramatic gunfire exchange happened shortly after midnight on Sunday around 17th and G Streets NW.

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said officers confronted an armed suspect, which quickly escalated into a shooting. The man’s identity remains under wraps, and his condition is unknown but serious.

Possible Link to Suicidal Individual Alert

Authorities had received reports about a “suicidal individual” travelling from Indiana to Washington, D.C. It’s still unclear if this is the same person involved in the shooting.

“As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm, and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel,” said Guglielmi.

White House Security Unbreached, Investigation Underway

Despite the tense incident, officials confirmed the White House was never breached, and no one protected by the Secret Service was at risk. The District of Columbia Fire Department said the suspect was seriously, possibly critically, wounded.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not identified any further threats and promise more updates as the story develops.
