Tragic Drowning of Croydon Schoolgirl at Water Park
An 11-year-old schoolgirl from Croydon drowned after going missing at a water park during a birthday party. Kyra Hill vanished from an inflatable assault course at Liquid Leisure in Windsor between 3 and 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 6.
Kyra’s Last Moments at Liquid Leisure
Kyra, a bright student at Coombe Wood School, was taking part in a Total Wipeout-style challenge with around ten friends. When she failed to return nearly an hour later, panic set in. Emergency services were called at 3.55 p.m. following reports of a child in distress.
Her body was found around 5.10 p.m. and she was rushed to Wexham Park Hospital. Thames Valley Police are investigating the death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.
Heartbreaking Tributes Pour In
Kyra, who would have turned 12 on August 18, was remembered as “so kind” and “really smart.” A classmate said: “Kyra was extremely gracious. She was extremely intelligent, ranking first in all of our classes. She enjoyed making people happy and cared about them.”
Known as an avid football fan, Kyra supported Manchester United and played for her school team in Croydon. One classmate’s mother sobbed, “She was such a sweet girl.” On social media, heartfelt messages poured in:
- “Your smile and hugs gave me life, and you will never be forgotten.”
Safety Measures Under Scrutiny
The birthday girl’s mother ensured all children attending could swim before inviting them. Liquid Leisure requires all visitors to confirm they are strong swimmers and mandates life jackets for inflatable activities.
Police continue to probe the tragic incident as more details emerge about what happened during the ill-fated party.
