Teen Tragedy: Family Pleads for Info After Crash Near Ashford
The family of Millie Greenway, a popular teenager just three weeks shy of her 18th birthday, have made a heartfelt plea for anyone with information to come forward. Millie was fatally injured as a passenger in a speeding car that smashed into a tree near Egerton, close to Ashford.
Crash Shocks Locals: ‘Sound Like Overturned Lorry’
Residents Peter and Joan Ross were startled by the crash. Peter said, “The noise went straight through me. I was just getting ready to watch a programme about restoring cars.”
He added, “When my wife and I went outside, two people were already out of the car. A neighbour four doors down also heard the crash.”
Police Probe Underway Into Pursuit and Fatal Crash
An Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) spokesman confirmed a formal investigation is under way. The incident occurred at around 8.20pm on Saturday 4 July, on Mundy Bois Road, Egerton near Pluckley.
“Kent Police on patrol spotted a vehicle with six people inside driving at speed. Officers followed and soon found the crashed car,” the spokesman said.
“They immediately called for ambulances and gave medical aid at the scene.”
“Tragically, Millie, a passenger, died. The driver and other passengers remain in hospital with serious injuries.”
“Our investigators are examining whether police were actively pursuing the car prior to the crash.”
“Our thoughts are with Millie’s family and everyone affected by this tragic event.”
