A brutal hammer attack shook Melksham High Street late on Friday night. The victim is now safe at home, but police are still hunting two masked assailants on bikes.
Man Bashed with Hammer in Midnight Melksham Scuffle
Just before midnight on Friday (17/10), a man confronted two masked cyclists clad head-to-toe in black. Things turned nasty fast when one of the suspects slammed a hammer down on the victim.
Emergency crews rushed the injured man to hospital. Luckily, his injuries were not life-threatening. He has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

Officers arrived shortly after the attack just before midnight on Saturday (18/10). Detective Chief Inspector Penny Andrews addressed worried locals:
“This incident and the large police presence in the town will have undoubtedly caused concern for many residents. I would like to assure you this was an isolated event with no risk to the wider public.”
She added, “We thank the witnesses who have come forward and urge anyone with information, especially dashcam footage of two males in dark clothing cycling around Melksham town centre in the early hours, to get in touch.”
