Knife Rampage at London Bridge: Attacker Chased Down by Brave Bystanders
Chaos Erupts at Fishmongers’ Hall
Just before 2pm on Friday, terror struck inside Fishmongers’ Hall at the north end of London Bridge. A man, dressed all in black, went on a random knife attack spree, wielding two 8-inch blades. The hall was hosting a ‘Learning Together’ event, a scheme by Cambridge academics connecting criminal justice pros and higher education.
Everyday Heroes Take Action
Quick-thinking bystanders grabbed a fire extinguisher and gave chase. A tour guide and a rugby player joined in, spraying the attacker with foam to stop him in his tracks.
“I gave it all I had,” one fighter said. “I wrestled with him, stamping on his wrist to free the knives. He had one in each hand.”
Police Arrive and Suspect Shot Dead
City of London Police arrived swiftly, ending the terrifying scene by shooting the man dead. Witnesses described police performing CPR on a man on the road, and another victim being carried away under a blanket.
Known Terror Suspect Under Surveillance
The attacker was already on the radar of police and security services. Having served time in prison, he was released earlier this year on strict conditions, including wearing an electronic tag and monitoring.
In the aftermath, police took witnesses to the Salvation Army HQ near St Paul’s Cathedral for statements, piecing together the day’s shocking events.
