Scam Alert: Criminals Impersonate Insolvency Service to Steal Cash

The Insolvency Service has issued a stark warning. Crooks are pretending to be its staff, targeting the public with fake letters and calls to con victims out of money. These fraudsters claim the Insolvency Service has sanctioned third-party firms to recover lost investments — but it’s all a sham.

Fake Docs and Phoney Fees

Scam artists are using forged letterheads, fake staff signatures, and other official-looking documents to dupe people. They bombard victims with unsolicited calls and emails, demanding upfront fees for supposed “taxes,” “admin costs,” or “third-party expenses.” Once the cash lands in their accounts, the fraudsters vanish without a trace, leaving victims empty-handed.
