Man Arrested After Shocking Yarmouth Bus Stop Assault
A man is in custody after a brutal attack on a woman at a Yarmouth bus stop late Sunday night. Police have cordoned off the scene while investigating what’s being described as a serious assault caught on nearby CCTV.
Violent Assault Sparks Major Police Response
The incident happened just before 11pm. Five police vehicles from across the Isle of Wight, backed by the dog unit and two ambulances, rushed to the scene. Witnesses were left horrified as they saw a woman being stretchered into an ambulance, blood pooling on the pavement and smears visible on the bus shelter glass.
Victim Hospitalised with Serious Head Injury
The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was treated at the scene before being taken to St Mary’s Hospital with a serious head injury. Emergency services acted swiftly to stabilise her condition.
Two Arrests Made in Connection to the Attack
Isle of Wight Police arrested a 29-year-old man from Sandown on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. A 28-year-old woman from Totland Bay was also arrested on suspicion of assault. Both remain in custody as investigations continue.
A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.04pm on 22 July following reports of a woman suffering a head injury near the bus station in Yarmouth. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.”
“A 29-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman have been arrested and remain in custody at this time.”
