Driver Rams Police Officers in Chafford Hundred – Man Held on Attempted Murder Charges
Police are hunting for witnesses after a reckless driver ploughed into two officers during a stop check in Chafford Hundred on Tuesday night.
Chaos on Drake Road
At around 9.15pm on 14 January, officers tried to stop a vehicle on Drake Road. Instead of pulling over, the driver hit the gas, mounting a grass verge and crashing into two officers.
- One officer was dragged to the floor and run over.
- The other was punched in the face by the driver.
Despite the violence, the officers managed to detain the 26-year-old suspect after a brief chase.
Serious Charges and Police Statement
The man remains in custody, facing serious charges including attempted murder, assaulting a police officer, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and resisting arrest.
“No officer should ever be assaulted doing their job,” said Chief Inspector Richard Melton, District Commander for Thurrock. “Fortunately, our officers were not seriously injured and have since been discharged from hospital. Specialist teams are supporting them ahead of their return to work.”
