Murder Hunt Launched After Man Dies Following Shovel Attack at M25 Cobham Services
Surrey Police have launched a full murder investigation after a man attacked with a shovel at Cobham Services on the M25 tragically died.
Shocking Assault at Busy M25 Petrol Station
Police rushed to Cobham Services, located between Junctions 9 and 10, at 3.15pm on Monday 26 June following reports of a fight between two groups who knew each other. During the brutal brawl, a 20-year-old man was struck with a shovel, suffering severe head injuries.
The victim was airlifted to St George’s Hospital by ambulance but sadly passed away earlier today.
Suspects Flee Scene in White Van – Now Recovered
The two attackers escaped the scene in a white Peugeot Partner van, registration NX63 VLP, fitted with a roof rack and ladder. The van was found abandoned in Chessington and is now in police custody.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and CCTV Footage
“This was a horrifying attack at a busy petrol station on the M25,” said Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Jo Hayes. “We believe there are witnesses who have yet to come forward. Anyone who was at the petrol station between 3pm and 3.30pm on Monday 26 June, especially those who refuelled or visited the shop, must get in touch.”
Particularly important is a man captured on CCTV wearing military or camouflage-style clothing. Officers believe he could hold vital information.
There are also reports that people filmed the fight on mobile phones, and police want to retrieve any footage. Drivers with dashcams who were on the forecourt are urged to come forward as well.
“Although the van has been recovered, we still need to track its movements between 3.30pm Monday and 10am the next day,” DCI Hayes added. “If you saw this vehicle or know anything about the driver, please contact us urgently.”
