Gas Canister Thrown from Footbridge Hits Lorry Driver in Face

Chaos erupted at 7.30pm on Saturday 10 December when two people on a footbridge leading to Coachman’s Lane hurled a gas canister at a southbound lorry.

The 30cm long canister smashed through the windscreen, striking the driver in the face.

Lucky Escape for Lorry Driver

Miraculously, the man behind the wheel escaped serious injury. He kept his cool, safely bringing the vehicle to a stop before alerting the police.

Police Launch Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Sergeant Michael Ball of the North Herts Local Crime Unit slammed the reckless attack. He said:

“This was an incredibly reckless act which could have resulted in serious injury or even worse to innocent motorists. Throwing any items from a height onto a moving carriageway is extremely dangerous.”

He urged anyone who saw suspicious activity near the bridge at the time – or who may have dash cam footage – to come forward.
