“At approximately 2pm today, police responded to a stabbing near London Bridge. A male suspect was shot by armed officers and died at the scene. Several others were injured, and we will provide updates on their condition as soon as possible. Due to reports of an explosive device strapped to the suspect, specialist officers attended the scene. Thankfully, this device has been confirmed as a hoax.
We have declared this a terrorist incident. Our Counter Terrorism Command is now leading the investigation, but we keep an open mind regarding motive. Extensive cordons remain in place, and we urge the public to avoid the area. Public safety is our highest priority.”
