Fake Gun and Cannabis Seized in Sutton-in-Ashfield Taxi Stop
Police from Ashfield’s Operation Reacher nabbed a taxi in Leamington Drive, Sutton-in-Ashfield, just before 10am on Tuesday. What started as a routine stop quickly turned up a stash of illegal items.
Passenger Caught with Cannabis and Pellet Gun
The passenger was found carrying a small amount of cannabis. A search under the Misuse of Drugs Act uncovered a hefty sum of cash and a gas-powered pellet gun. The gun mimics a real firearm but isn’t lethal.
Man Arrested, Cash Seized Pending Investigation
A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a class B drug and an imitation firearm. He remains in custody. Police will hold the cash securely until he can prove it’s from a legal source. Meanwhile, the pellet gun will undergo further examination.
Police Warn Public About Danger of Imitation Weapons
“Weapons like these may not be genuine firearms, but they can still cause significant injury, alarm, and distress to the public who can’t tell the difference,” said PC Jade Massey from Nottinghamshire Police. “We’re glad to have taken this device off the streets and hope this stop warns others about the serious consequences of carrying such items.”
