Sex Assault Probe Launched After Distressed Woman Found in Herne Bay

Kent Police are hunting witnesses after a woman was spotted distressed in Herne Bay’s High Street in the early hours of Saturday, 14 July 2018.

A member of the public rang police at 4.11am reporting a woman sitting in a doorway opposite the fire station. Officers believe she may be a victim of sexual assault but she left before they arrived.

Detective Constable Ron Smith said: “We are concerned about her welfare and urge her to contact us so we can establish if an offence took place.”

  • Slim to medium build
  • Wavy brown hair just below shoulders
  • Wearing a patterned dress
  • Barefoot, carrying high-heeled shoes

Man Arrested as Inquiry Continues

A 34-year-old local man is currently being held on suspicion of sexual assault.

Police want anyone who saw anything suspicious or recognises the woman’s description to call 01843 222289, quoting reference 14-211. Alternatively, you can report information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
