Police Crackdown on Beach Trouble in Margate and Broadstairs

Kent Police are stepping up this weekend with tough dispersal orders after a spike in anti-social behaviour on Margate and Broadstairs beaches.

Extra Police Patrols to Keep the Peace

From 4pm Friday 3 July to 4pm Sunday 5 July, officers will patrol Margate Main Sands and the stretch between Botany Bay and Viking Bay. Any groups of two or more causing harassment, alarm, or distress will be dispersed on the spot.

Stopping Troublemakers in Their Tracks

Chief Inspector Ed Ruffle, Thanet’s District Commander, said: “Most visitors enjoy Thanet without issue. But recently, a troublesome few have spoiled it with excessive drinking, bad behaviour, and even violence.”

Working with Thanet District Council’s beach management team, police aim to keep coastal spots safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Ruffle warned: “Officers will intervene promptly, and anyone refusing to comply risks arrest.”

This is part of a broader plan to handle the surge of summer visitors and keep the peace on Kent’s popular beaches.
