Armed Police Arrest Man After Hit-and-Run at Isle of Sheppey Holiday Park
Armed officers from Kent Police swooped on Saddlebrook Park Holiday Park on the Isle of Sheppey last night following a dramatic incident involving a hit-and-run.
Armed Response Called to Leysdown
At around 8.14pm, emergency services were scrambled to Warden Bay Road in Leysdown after reports that a woman had been struck by a vehicle near Saddlebrook Park.
Witnesses told police the driver appeared to be armed. Armed officers alongside around six South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) vehicles rushed to the scene.
Vehicles Recovered as Man Taken Into Custody
Police contractors later recovered a white van and a grey BMW from the area, with an additional vehicle seized near Danes Drive.
A Kent Police spokesman said: “Officers attended following a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The driver was believed to be carrying a weapon. A woman was found injured and taken to hospital. A man has been arrested while enquiries continue.”
Air Ambulance Called but Later Leaves
The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance was also deployed to the island but returned to base in Redhill, Surrey, shortly after.
Ongoing Investigation After Tense Drama
Locals say the scene was tense, with the driver suspected of being armed during the incident. The arrested man and injured woman are believed to know each other as police carry on with their investigations.
