£25k Cannabis Factory Busted in Royal Wootton Bassett

Police uncovered a massive cannabis farm worth an eye-watering £25,000 in Royal Wootton Bassett after a sharp-eyed local tipped them off. Officers swooped on a property in Buxton Way around 5.25pm yesterday following complaints about a strong, unusual smell and suspicious lighting.

25 Plants and Tampered Electrics Found

Inside, cops found 25 cannabis plants thriving under tampered electrics – a clear sign of illegal activity. The street value of the haul topped £25k. Thankfully, no one was home when the raid happened. Police have since sealed off the scene to carry out further investigations and ensure the property’s safety.

Police Praise Community for Crucial Tip-Off

“This is a great example of the importance of community intelligence,” said PS Darren Zerebecki from the Royal Wootton Bassett response team.

“A potential cannabis farm was reported to us by a member of the public yesterday and we have been able to swiftly take action, discovering a cannabis grow which will now be seized.

“A scene remains in place while we investigate and gather evidence, so residents are likely to see an increased policing presence.

“The public are our eyes and ears. If you think that a property near you might be used for illegal drug activity then please report it to us.

This can be done on 101 or through our website. Alternatively, information can be left anonymously with CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.”

How to Spot a Cannabis Farm Near You

  • Strong Odours: Cannabis crops give off potent smells, especially near harvest time.
  • Covered Windows: Windows constantly shut, covered, or boarded up from inside.
  • Heavy Security: Extra locks, grilles, or bars on doors and windows.
  • Condensation: Excessive moisture on windows, often from grow-room conditions.
  • Strange Visitors: Unusual, frequent visits at odd hours.
  • Minimal Resident Activity: Owners rarely seen, only visiting a couple of times a week.
  • Plant Equipment Moving In and Out: Soil, fertiliser, or plant waste spotted being brought in or removed.
  • Excess Wiring: Cables hanging from walls or ceilings signal power-hungry grow equipment.
  • Electricity Bills Fluctuating: Sudden spikes or drops may hint at meter tampering.
  • No Snow on Roof: The heat from grow lights can melt snow in winter.
  • Bright Lights 24/7: Continuous strong lighting inside the property is suspicious.
  • Ventilation Noise: The constant buzz of fans may indicate grow-room ventilation.
