Tragic Loss: Young Footballer Samuel Akwasi Dies After Collapsing on Pitch
Samuel Akwasi, a beloved player for FC Cavaliers, tragically passed away after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest during a youth football match on Saturday.
Heartbreak at Forest Sports Zone
The match, held at Forest Sports Zone in Nottingham’s Forest Recreation Ground, saw Samuel collapse while playing against West Bridgford Rossoneri in the Young Elizabethan Football League. Despite the swift use of a defibrillator and rapid emergency response, Samuel sadly died at Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC).
Club and County FA Pay Tribute
FC Cavaliers described Samuel as “very well respected by all his team members” and noted he had been with the club since the Under-9s. Nottinghamshire Football Association expressed deep sadness and sent condolences to Samuel’s family, friends, and teammates.
“We send our condolences to Samuel’s friends, family and team mates at this extremely difficult time,” the county FA said on Twitter.
A spokesman for the Young Elizabethan Football League called the incident “devastating” and offered prayers to all affected.
“Our hearts and prayers all go out to his family and friends as well as FC Cavaliers at this awful time,” he said.
