Wintry Grip Loosens – But Cold Snap’s Not Over Yet!

Winter weather is finally easing across much of the UK this weekend. But don’t pack away your thermals just yet. Colder conditions are set to roar back early next week, bringing fresh frost and freezing temperatures.

Storm Larisa Retreats, Frost and Ice Take Over

Storm Larisa, named by French meteorologists, has swept across England, dumping significant snowfall. Now, Larisa is pulling away towards northern Europe, letting in a blast of colder, clearer air by Friday evening.

But clearer skies mean fresh hazards. Expect widespread frost and ice with sub-zero temperatures across many areas.

Jason Kelly, Met Office Chief Forecaster, warns: “The worst snowfall in England is over for now, but frost and ice will keep weather warnings in place.”

Meanwhile, northern Scotland braces for more snow showers to roll in.

Weekend Weather Roulette: Rain, Snow & Warm Fronts

By Saturday early hours, warmer, moist air from the southwest pushes in across the UK. On Sunday, this warm front clashes with lingering cold air, sparking short bursts of snow and heavy rain.

Jason Kelly adds: “Northern Ireland and North Wales may see brief snow showers, extending to higher ground in northern England and Scotland.”

Early Week Chill Returns

The cold isn’t done with us. By Monday and Tuesday, colder air is expected to flood back in from the north, bringing fresh chilly conditions across much of the UK—though not as severe as earlier this week.

Deputy Chief Forecaster Daniel Rudman says: “Tuesday will stay cold but with brighter spells. Showers may hit higher areas, with snow possible on hills.”

Later next week could bring milder weather and rain — but don’t rule out more snow for northern uplands.

Travel Chaos Warning: Stay Safe on Slippery Roads

RAC Breakdown spokesman Rod Dennis stressed, “Wintery hazards continue. Expect slippery roads from overnight frost and lingering wet patches. Fresh snow may hit isolated upland routes.”

He urges drivers: “Check forecasts, heed warnings, and prepare your car with warm clothes, food, drinks, a phone charger, and a power bank.”

Cold Weather Alert in Place for England

The UK Health Security Agency has issued a Level 3 Cold Weather Alert across England until Monday 9am.

Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Events, warns: “Check on vulnerable people during cold snaps. If you’re over 65 or have health conditions, try to keep your home at least 18°C.”

Stay tuned, stay warm, and keep safe out there this weekend and next week!
