Chaos on A3 Northbound in Guildford After Serious Collision

The A3 northbound is shut between the A31 and A322 near Guildford following a major crash involving two cars and a pedestrian. Surrey Police are leading emergency response efforts alongside other services.

Massive Delays Hit Roads Around Guildford

Highways England is rushing resources to the scene to help manage traffic. Drivers face at least 30 minutes of extra delay on top of usual journey times. The closure means major disruption for commuters heading north.

Official Diversion Route – Avoid the Snarl-Up

  • Exit the A3 northbound at Cathedral Interchange.
  • Take the 4th exit at the roundabout onto Egerton Road, passing under the A3.
  • At the next roundabout, take the 4th exit onto The Chase.
  • Continue via Madrid Road/Guildford Park Road into central Guildford, passing the railway station.
  • At the A31 Farnham Road roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the A31, heading to the A322 roundabout.
  • Keep left at the roundabout toward the A246/A322 roundabout and take the 1st exit onto the A322 (Woodbridge Road).
  • Follow the A322 to the A25 T-junction, turn right on A25 (Ladymead), then left onto the A320 Stoke Road junction after passing under the A3.
  • At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit to rejoin the A3 northbound.

Police Appeal: Witnesses Needed

The crash happened around 6pm on Tuesday, 3 December near the A3 slip road by Guildford Cathedral. The pedestrian was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“We urgently need anyone who witnessed this incident or who has dashcam footage to contact us on 101, quoting reference PR/P19280703,” said Surrey Police.
