Aldi to Shut Stores on Boxing Day Giving Staff a Well-Deserved Break
Stores Closed on Christmas and Boxing Day
Aldi has revealed it will close all UK stores on Monday, December 25, and Tuesday, December 26, 2023. Shops will reopen on Wednesday, December 27. This rare move puts staff first, allowing workers to enjoy quality time with family over the festive period.
Extended Hours Before Christmas
Shoppers don’t have to panic. Aldi will extend opening hours before Christmas to help customers stock up on festive essentials and treats. Expect longer hours in the lead-up to the big day.
New Christmas Jobs and Pay Boosts
- Aldi is hiring 3,000 new store roles, including Store Assistants, managers, and cleaners.
- Starting pay is £11.40 per hour nationally, rising to £12.85 inside the M25.
- Another 1,500 roles open at regional distribution centres for warehouse and logistics positions.
Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: “We recognize Christmas is an important time for many of our colleagues. Closing stores on Boxing Day lets them spend more time with their families.”
Kelly Stokes, Recruitment Director at Aldi UK, added: “Our colleagues keep our shelves stocked year-round. Closing on Boxing Day is our way to say thank you and welcome new faces for the busy season.”
Aldi’s Staff-Centred Festive Spirit
The supermarket’s Boxing Day shutdown highlights its commitment to a positive work environment and employee well-being. While customers enjoy expanded shopping hours before the holiday, Aldi’s staff get the rest they deserve during the Christmas celebration.
