Coastguard Rescue Helicopter Flies Urgent Medical Transfer from Newport to Southampton

Swift Airlift from St Mary’s Hospital

The coastguard’s rescue helicopter, Rescue 175, was scrambled to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport this evening. The mission? To airlift a critically ill patient to Southampton for urgent care.

The chopper, based at Lee-on-the-Solent, arrived just before sunset to carry out the high-stakes medical transfer.

Team Effort on the Ground

Once the patient was stabilised mid-flight, the helicopter touched down at Lordshill in Southampton. There, the Southampton Coastguard Critical Rescue Team took over, transferring the patient to an ambulance waiting for the final dash to Southampton General Hospital.

Mission Complete, Helicopter Returns to Base

After refuelling and completing its vital task, Rescue 175 headed straight back to base, standing by for the next emergency call.
