Blazing Inferno Turns Award-Winning Holiday Park into War Zone
A vicious fire tore through Park Dean Holiday Park on Hayling Island last night, turning the serene site into a scene straight out of a war zone.
Four Fire Crews Battle Fierce Caravan Blaze
Fierce flames engulfed the award-winning holiday park on Manor Road, Hayling Island, prompting an emergency response from four fire crews from Hayling Island, Havant, Cosham, and Portchester. Hampshire Fire & Rescue were called out just after 9pm on Sunday evening to tackle the inferno.
The fire spread fast among the tightly-packed tourist units, causing gas cylinders to explode and heightening the danger. It took firefighters nearly three hours to get the blaze under control.
One Man Hospitalised as Homes Go Up in Smoke
One man was rushed to hospital by ambulance after sustaining injuries during the blaze. Firefighters found their efforts hampered by an inadequate hydrant system on site, forcing them to lay hoses from Manor Way across the main road to fight the fire.
A static home valued at around £30,000 was completely gutted, while two others suffered external damage. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus braved the intense flames to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Chaos and Distress as Park Managers Stay Silent
Park managers watched on but refused to comment, citing the need to support upset guests. The park remains closed as police and emergency crews maintain a large presence while investigations continue.
The cause of the blaze is still unknown. Officers from the Police Arson and Fire Investigation Taskforce are working alongside fire service teams to uncover what sparked the disaster.
Eyewitness Describes Harrowing Scene
“It looked like a war zone – it was very frightening, especially for our children and pets,” said guest Mandy Jones. “There were loud explosions and huge flames towering over the site.”
More than 20 emergency calls prompted a rapid response from four fire engines and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) from South Central Ambulance Service. The chaotic scene shocked visitors and residents alike.
