A fierce fire has exploded on Lord Street in North Woolwich, sending thick, choking smoke drifting near London City Airport. Fire crews are battling the blaze as thick black clouds blight the skyline.
Six Engines and 40 Firefighters Battle Blaze
The London Fire Brigade rushed six fire engines and around 40 firefighters to the scene. Teams are working flat out to bring the flames under control and prevent the fire from spreading further.
Smoke Plumes Close to London City Airport
Heavy smoke from the inferno is visible near London City Airport, disrupting the area. The nearby DLR service was briefly shut down, forcing local buses to step in and carry frustrated commuters along the route.
