Van Blaze Traps 9 Miles of M25 Traffic
A van burst into flames just before 4pm between junctions 5 and 6 on the M25, wrecking the road surface and causing chaos for motorists. A massive 9-mile tailback has left drivers stuck in gridlock.
Traffic Chaos as Fire Tears Through Carriageway
The blaze forced emergency crews into swift action. Kent Fire and Rescue deployed two fire engines, with firefighters in breathing apparatus dousing the flames using hose reel jets. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Drivers Diverted and Delays Mount
- Vehicles are being rerouted via the M26 to escape the jam.
- Where possible, trapped cars are being turned around to ease congestion.
- Some trapped traffic is now being allowed past the scene, but delays of 40 to 60 minutes remain common.

Kent Police received the first call at 3.41pm on Tuesday, 1 September 2020, reporting the van fire near Clacket Lane services. Emergency services remain on scene working to clear the damage and restore traffic flow.
