M25 Chaos: Two Lorries and Car Crash Halts Traffic Between Kent and Essex
Motorists face major gridlock today after a serious smash involving two lorries and a car on the M25. The crash has brought traffic to a complete standstill in both directions between Kent and Essex.
Crash Details and Road Closure
The pile-up happened at around 12:20 PM on the M25 clockwise at Junction 1b (A296 Dartford), just before the QEII Bridge. The collision forced a full closure of the motorway both ways, causing severe congestion as delays balloon.
Traffic Nightmare: Long Delays and Massive Tailbacks
Traffic is crawling clockwise, with queues building back to Junction 30 (A13 Lakeside) and bogged down over the QEII Bridge. The anticlockwise carriageway is also crawling due to residual jams and rubbernecking.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “The M25 is currently blocked in both directions following a collision involving two lorries and a car. Emergency services are on scene working to clear vehicles. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and expect long delays.”
Emergency Response Underway
Paramedics, police, and fire crews rushed to the scene. Kent Fire and Rescue are helping clear wreckage and managing safety, especially around potential fuel leaks from the lorries. No official reports on injuries yet, but medical teams are assisting those involved.
Driver Advice and Alternative Routes
- Clockwise drivers: Exit at Junction 30 (A13) and divert towards Dartford.
- Anticlockwise drivers: Avoid the QEII Bridge. Consider Blackwall Tunnel or Dartford Crossing instead.
Travel through the affected stretch could take over two hours.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
The Metropolitan and Kent Police are investigating the crash and want to hear from anyone who saw it or has dashcam footage.
“If you witnessed the collision or have dashcam footage that could help us understand how this happened, please get in touch,” urged Kent Police.
Anyone with information should call Kent Police on 101 quoting reference M25/12:20/20FEB.
Ongoing Disruption Expected Into Evening
The M25 remains closed as recovery teams clear the scene. Authorities warn traffic chaos may last into the evening rush hour. Drivers are strongly advised to plan ahead and stay updated.
