A massive fire erupted in the engine room of a ship docked at Sheerness on Thursday night, sparking a huge emergency response from Kent’s top fire crews.

The alarm was raised at 7:31 pm on 24 October 2024. Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) rushed 10 fire engines and a height vehicle, plus their Volunteer Response Team, to the scene. Firefighters in breathing gear battled the inferno through the night.
One Injured and Airlifted as Authorities Scramble
Amid the chaos, one person was hurt and airlifted to hospital. Their condition remains unknown. Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also raced to the scene to help.
Fire Under Control — But Investigation Ongoing
The blaze was brought under control by 2:40 am on Friday, but crews are still monitoring the docks to keep the area safe. Officials have confirmed the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
