Body Found in River Trent Car After Months Underwater

A body has been pulled from the River Trent after a car submerged back in November was finally recovered, Nottinghamshire Police confirmed.

Car Discovered Months After Vanishing Below Water

The vehicle was located at around 3:30pm on Sunday, 15 March, between Sandringham Avenue and County Hall. Officers say it’s the same car that plunged into the river near Wilford Suspension Bridge, West Bridgford, on 15 November 2025.

Inside, divers found the body of a man believed to be the car’s registered owner. His body was recovered on 16 March.

Search Hampered by Weather, Charity Helps Pinpoint Wreck

Search efforts have dragged on since November, involving Humberside Police and a specialist Home Office team. The breakthrough came after a fresh search by a specialist charity on Sunday finally located the vehicle.

Police Appeal and Ongoing Probe

Detective Sergeant Millie Gillett said: “Our thoughts are with this man’s family who have been updated and offered support. While our investigation continues, we don’t believe his death to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

“Underwater search teams have worked tirelessly since this began, but high river levels and heavy rain have made their job extremely difficult.

“Detectives are also trying to find out what caused the vehicle to enter the water. I urge the public not to speculate on what happened.”
