Tragic Plane Crash Claims Pilot’s Life in Chesterfield
A pilot has died after a single-engine plane crashed in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Emergency services have urged the public to avoid the area as investigations continue.
Crash Site Sealed Off as Probe Begins
The plane came down on Sheepbridge Lane, north of Chesterfield near the A61. The pilot was the sole person on board and was pronounced dead at the scene. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the fatality and said the pilot’s family has been informed.
Derbyshire Police stated:
“Emergency services were called to land off Sheepbridge Lane, in Sheepbridge, Chesterfield, earlier today (Sunday 1 September). An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing. The pilot was the only person on board and died in the collision. His family has been informed.”
Emergency Crews Responded Promptly
Fire crews from Chesterfield, Clay Cross, and Staveley were dispatched at 09:05am. Derbyshire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the scene. Roads around Sheepbridge Lane—an industrial area near farmland and a rugby club—have been closed and remain shut while inquiries continue.
Flight Details and Ongoing Investigation
Flight tracking website Flightradar identified the aircraft as a privately owned Evektor SportStar, built in 2022. The last recorded signal was at 8:03am UTC at 600 feet over Sheepbridge.
While fire crews have since left the scene, Derbyshire Police maintain control and ask the public to steer clear to aid emergency efforts. Further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
