Cop Seriously Hurt in High-Stakes Chase on A5
A Staffordshire police officer is fighting for recovery after a violent incident on the A5 tonight. The drama unfolded at around 6:15pm on Tuesday, 29 November, when police tried to stop a suspicious heavy goods vehicle (HGV).
Intense Foot Chase Ends in Collision
The officer gave chase after the HGV stopped between Wall Island and Weeford Island. The suspect got out and threatened the officer with a fallen tree branch. As the officer stepped back towards the road, he was hit by another vehicle.
Suspect Steals Ford Fiesta Amid Traffic Chaos
The attacker then pulled a driver from a stationary Ford Fiesta, stealing the car before abandoning it near the Social Club in Pelsall.
The injured officer, from Tamworth police station, is in hospital with serious leg and chest injuries. His family is also at the hospital, being supported by police colleagues.
Police Appeal for Public’s Help
All vehicles involved, including the stolen silver Ford Fiesta, are now recovering for forensic checks.
The suspect is described as a white male, slim, around 6ft tall, wearing dark clothing.
