40mph Speed Limit Slows Trains for Safety
Network Rail has imposed a 40mph speed limit on routes south of Balcombe from 6pm Sunday to 2pm Monday. This move aims to guard against landslips and flooding risks amid stormy weather.
Forecasts predict up to 4cm of rain, putting coastal stations like Brighton on alert for reduced and delayed services.
Expect Delays and Disruptions Into Monday Afternoon
Network Operations Director Mike Paterson warned: “Regrettably, for safety reasons, speed limits of 40mph are being introduced on the south of the Sussex network because of the heavy rain forecast. Journeys will take much longer than normal.”
He added delays may persist into Monday evening as trains and crews struggle to get back on track once restrictions lift.
