Search Continues for Missing Man After Boat Capsizes on River Thames
A desperate search has resumed for a man in his 60s missing after a small rowing boat capsized on the River Thames near Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey.
Boat Capsizes at Sunbury Lock
Surrey Police were called to Sunbury Lock at around 8:50am on Friday following reports that a small boat had flipped over. Five people on board were rescued by emergency crews, but one man remains unaccounted for.
- South East Coast Ambulance Service and Surrey Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene.
- Three of the rescued were taken to hospital for checks.
Police Confirm Ongoing Search and Family Notified
Surrey Police have informed the missing man’s family and are keeping them updated as the search continues. A spokesperson said: “Inquiries to establish the full circumstances remain ongoing. Sadly, we believe a man in his 60s may still be in the river.”
Chief Inspector Andy Jenkins of North Surrey called it “a very distressing time for all involved”. He confirmed there is no sign of foul play or third-party involvement.
Authorities are expected to release further updates as the desperate search goes on.
