Live Bombs Found on Selsey Beach – Expert Team Defuses Them
Selsey Coastguard swooped on the beach after a member of the public spotted live ordnance on Saturday morning. Authorities quickly sealed off the area and shut the beach to the public.
More Explosives Discovered During Search
A thorough sweep of the shoreline revealed additional dangerous items. These were snapped and sent straight to the Royal Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team for expert assessment.
Controlled Explosion Brings Relief
Specialist bomb squad from Portsmouth arrived and made the scene safe. Just after 2.30pm, they carried out a controlled explosion to neutralise the threat.
Coastguard Warns: Don’t Touch Suspected Ordnance
“If you come across any ordnance on the beach or something you’re unsure of, please do not touch it. Call 999 immediately and ask for the Coastguard! Ordnance comes in all shapes and sizes and can be highly explosive like today’s finds,” said the UK Coastguard.
“The coast and sea can catch you out whether you’re local or not. Our message remains: call 999 Coastguard if you’re in trouble. Please help us and our families stay safe. Be aware of the risks, keep your distance.”
