Lightning Strikes Home in St Leonards, Sparks Late-Night Blaze
Emergency crews raced to a house fire on Cliftonville Road, St Leonards, after lightning reportedly hit the property during Thursday night’s fierce thunderstorm (13 June).
Four Fire Engines Battle Fierce Flames
East Sussex Fire and Rescue were called at 10.50pm and quickly dispatched four fire engines and an Aerial Ladder Platform to tackle the inferno. Crews from The Ridge, Bohemia Road, Broad Oak, and Bexhill joined forces to fight the fire.
Lightning to Blame, No Injuries
“The fire is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike during the storm. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries,” a fire service spokesperson confirmed.
Firefighters donned six sets of Breathing Apparatus and used two hose reel jets plus a main jet to control the blaze. Sussex Police were on hand to assist with emergency efforts.
Fire Snuffed Out in Under an Hour
Nearby residents were warned to keep doors and windows shut due to thick smoke. The blaze was fully extinguished by 11.45pm, with emergency teams praising their swift response.
Authorities are now investigating to officially confirm the fire’s cause.
