Tragic Death of Fisherman Christopher Packer Shakes Warwickshire Community

The wife of Christopher Packer, 54, has paid a heartfelt tribute to her husband after he tragically drowned in Draycote Water near Rugby. The avid fisherman and beloved father was remembered as a man who “brought happiness, joy and laughter to all he met.”

Fishing Trip Ends in Disaster

On Thursday 29 May, Christopher and his teenage son fell into the water during a fishing trip. Two heroic members of the public rescued the son unharmed, but Christopher went missing.

Emergency teams launched an extensive search involving police, fire crews, ambulance staff, and search and rescue units. Sadly, Christopher’s body was found the following evening, Friday 30 May.

Wife’s Emotional Tribute

“Although I cannot believe you are not with us anymore, I know that you were doing what you loved the most – fishing and being with our beautiful son. You lived your life in such a good way and brought happiness, joy, and laughter to all you met; you will forever be missed by everyone.”

“You departed this world far too early and left behind your family and friends who miss you more than words can say. You will live in our hearts forever and can now rest in peace.”

Gratitude for Rescuers and Community Support

Christopher’s wife also expressed deep thanks to those who helped during the tragic incident.

“Firstly, the amazing fishermen who were there that day and able to rescue my son – words cannot ever be enough and ‘thank you’ doesn’t even come close. Your actions saved a most precious young life.”

“To Warwickshire Police, Fire, Ambulance, and Search and Rescue teams, who worked incredibly hard in difficult conditions… your professional and reassuring manner brought comfort at the darkest of times.”

“I appreciate the impact this will have had on the local community and businesses affected and want to say thank you for respecting our privacy.”

Warwickshire Police have thanked the public and media for respecting the family’s privacy during this incredibly difficult time.
