Three arrested in Canterbury following probe into fraud involving bogus policeman
Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate Fraud Team have executed a warrant in Stodmarsh, Canterbury and arrested three people. The warrant, which took place at around 7am on Tuesday 30 April 2019, followed an investigation into several frauds where the victims had been targeted by rogue traders. Several months after the rogue trader incidents it is reported that the victims have been visited or cold called by men claiming to be police officers. They were told they had to pay court costs or VAT on the building they had worked on. The victims, who are all aged in their seventies, told detectives that they had lost tens of thousands of pounds in the fraud. Detective Sergeant Marc Cananur said: ‘Always ask for the identification of any caller to your home. No genuine caller will mind you doing this. If you have any doubts about the identity of a caller, ask them to wait, close and lock your door behind you and call the organisation they claim to be from.’ Three men aged 34, 40 and 48-years-old have been arrested in connection with fraud offences. They are currently in custody.
