Murder Probe Launched After Woman, 73, Found Dead in Bethnal Green
Police have launched a murder investigation after a 73-year-old woman was discovered dead with a serious head injury at a property in Bethnal Green.
Tragic Scene in Russia Lane
Emergency services were called to an address on Russia Lane around 9pm on Thursday, 14 August. Despite the London Ambulance Service’s efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 45-year-old man, known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke, leading the Central East Command Unit, said:
“Our team of officers and forensic specialists are working swiftly to uncover the full circumstances behind this tragic death.
We believe this was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public. However, residents will notice an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.
If you saw or heard anything suspicious near Russia Lane before 9pm last night, please come forward to assist our enquiries.”

The victim’s family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. A post-mortem will take place in due course.
