New Year Drone Barrage: Ukraine Under Intense Attack

As the world welcomed the New Year, Ukraine faced a storm of Russian aggression. Ukraine’s Air Force revealed that Russia unleashed 90 attack drones in a massive strike. In an impressive feat, Ukraine shot down 87 of these Shahed-type drones sent from four different directions.

Missiles and Mayhem: Multiple Fronts Hit

The drone onslaught was just part of the chaos. In Kharkiv, Ukraine was pummelled with four S-300 anti-aircraft missiles. These overnight drone and missile attacks have become a grim new normal, ramping up the pressure on Ukraine’s defence forces.

Deadly Shelling and Drone Strikes Ravage Ukraine

The eastern Donetsk region suffered severe shelling by Kyiv’s troops, reportedly killing four people, according to Russian-installed officials. At the same time, Russian air strikes hit several Ukrainian regions, causing casualties and damaging buildings.

Denis Pushilin, Russian-appointed Donetsk head: “Heavy shelling injured thirteen people in the city centre.”

Odesa was hit hard too, with a Russian drone attack killing one and injuring nine. Shot-down drone debris sparked fires in residential areas, adding to the destruction.

Widespread Strikes Stretch to West and South

Near the Polish border in Lviv, a Russian air attack damaged a university and a monument dedicated to a Ukrainian Insurgent Army commander. Attacks also hit Mykolaiv and Dnipro regions, highlighting the broad reach of Russia’s military operations.

The conflict shows no sign of easing. The international community remains on edge, pushing diplomatic efforts to broker peace amid this escalating nightmare.
