Uber Driver Who Exposed Himself to Passenger Gets Suspended Jail Sentence
A private hire driver who shocked a passenger by exposing himself mid-ride has avoided jail – but not for long. Nadeem Afzal, 51, from Chigwell, received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after admitting the sickening offence.
Long Journey Turns Nightmare
The victim, a woman in her early 20s, hailed an Uber in north London just after Halloween night. Afzal picked her up, but what should have been a 40-minute trip dragged on for almost two hours.
- Around 20 minutes into the ride, Afzal exposed himself.
- He repeatedly pressured the woman to touch him or perform a sex act – all refused.
- The passenger bravely recorded the harassment as it unfolded.
- She was eventually dropped off near her south London home.
Justice Served – but Afzal Avoids Jail for Now
Afzal pleaded guilty to one count of exposure under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 at Kingston Crown Court on January 2. He was handed a 12-month prison term suspended for two years. A Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) bans him from working as a cab driver for 10 years. He is also on the sex offenders’ register for a decade.
“Afzal preyed on this female passenger in his minicab and was extremely persistent in his sexual advances and behaviour, leaving the passenger feeling scared and vulnerable,” said Sergeant Jonny Harris of the Met’s Roads and Transport Command.
TfL and Police Praise Victim’s Bravery
Transport Policing boss Mandy McGregor added: “Nobody should ever be subjected to this kind of revolting and predatory behaviour. We applaud the bravery of the victim for coming forward.”
Afzal’s TfL licence was revoked. Authorities stressed they take every report seriously to protect passengers.
