Hero PC Left Fighting for Life After Hit-and-Run
PC Jon Casey remains in hospital after a brutal hit-and-run on Chigwell Road, London, in the early hours of Monday, 6 January. The officer was seriously injured when a grey Mini Cooper refused to stop and ploughed into him as he tried to deploy a stop stick.
Car Fails to Stop – Officer Targeted in Pursuit
Just after midnight at 12:10am, police flagged down the suspect vehicle on Chigwell Hill near Saint Barnabus Road, but the driver sped off. Officers then set up a trap on Chigwell Road near Gaynes Hill and the M11 overpass, hoping to catch the runaway driver’s car.
As PC Casey attempted to stop the grey Mini Cooper by deploying a Stop Stick, the vehicle struck him and fled, leaving the officer seriously hurt on the pavement.
Suspect Abandons Car with Fake Plates
Police found the suspect car abandoned at Woolhampton Way, Chigwell, just 35 minutes later. The grey Mini Cooper was sporting fake ’67’ year plates in an attempt to cover its tracks.
Family Pleads for Public’s Help
“This is my husband Jon Casey, the police officer run over in Woodford Bridge by a driver who refused to stop,” said Donna Casey. “He is a father of three boys, a son, a brother, and my best friend. Please share this picture so the public can see what these people will do to escape justice.”
