Essex Police Crack Down on Human Trafficking at Stansted Airport
Essex Police teamed up with Border Force and the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit to sniff out human trafficking at Stansted Airport. Officers spoke directly to passengers, raising the alarm on this horrific crime.
Targeting Labour Exploitation and More
The joint operation focused on flights arriving from countries where trafficked victims might be smuggled into the UK for forced labour or other abuses. Officers carefully monitored these flights to spot potential victims trapped in modern slavery.
In just two days, Thursday 17 and Friday 18 September, the operation led to one safeguarding referral — a vital step to protect those exploited.
Words from the Frontline
“Vulnerable people can be promised stable jobs and then be brought into the country and forced to work for little or no pay,” revealed DC Mark Ghosh. “They might also be forced into sex work against their wishes. It leaves them unable to break free from the debts they or their families have to pay to the criminals who made the arrangements and control every aspect of their lives.”
Speak Up and Help Us Fight Back
Essex Police are on the offensive every day to protect trafficking victims and bring their exploiters to justice. If you suspect human trafficking or modern slavery, don’t stay silent.
