Eleven Arrested in Major Modern Slavery and Drug Bust by Met Police
Eleven alleged members of an organised crime network (OCN) have been arrested in a major police crackdown on modern slavery and drug offences. The Met’s Specialist Crime Command led the operation, targeting key suspects in Barnet, Wandsworth, and Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.
Raids Hit Cannabis Factories and Human Traffickers
The arrests came after pre-planned warrants were executed early on Wednesday, 31 March. Officers from the Met’s Territorial Support Group backed the swoops, uncovering several leads. Three of the raided properties were found converted into cannabis production sites.
The 11 suspects, aged between 26 and 34, face charges including modern slavery, human trafficking, production of Class B drugs, possession of Class A drugs, and money laundering. Police are still combing through the evidence as searches continue.
Victims Rescued from Shocking Conditions
Three male victims were discovered living in squalid conditions — crammed into filthy rooms sleeping on dirty mattresses with little more than the clothes they wore. Specialist officers are now providing them with support and care.
“Today we have significantly disrupted this organised criminal network,” said Acting Detective Inspector Aaron Saunders of Central Specialist Crime. “These criminals trafficked vulnerable adults into the UK and forced them to commit crimes under threat of violence.”
“We believe victims of modern slavery are present across all London boroughs, often hidden in plain sight.”
Modern Slavery Hidden in Everyday Places
Victims have been found working in prostitution, construction, domestic servitude, agriculture, and in businesses like car washes, barbers, and nail bars – places the public regularly uses.
Many victims are warned not to trust UK authorities. With limited English skills, they often feel trapped and unable to seek help.
