Gun Attack in Woodley Lands Jerome Williams in Jail for 21 Years
Jerome Williams, 21, of Beresford Crescent, Stockport, has been locked up for a whopping 21 years following a brutal shooting in Woodley. He was found guilty of a Section 18 assault, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice at Manchester Crown Square Court.
Accomplice Caught After Crash and Fleeing Scene
Williams’ mate, Adrian Jefferies, 33, from the same street, was handed three years and nine months after admitting to multiple driving offences. These included failing to stop and report a collision, driving without a licence or insurance, driving without due care, and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Cold-Blooded Ambush
On February 3, 2020, Williams drove a Seat Leon with an unidentified gunman riding shotgun to the victim’s home in Woodley. The gunman sneaked out on foot before the car arrived and waited nearby.
Williams messaged the victim’s son, luring him and his mates outside. As the group chased after the car, the gunman sprang from hiding and opened fire, hitting the victim in the legs with three bullets.
Desperate Cover-Up Ended in Crash
After the shooting, Williams met Jefferies and asked him to ditch the car. While driving away, Jefferies crashed into another vehicle and a parked car before fleeing on foot, abandoning the Seat Leon.
Police seized the car and found a petrol can with Jefferies’ DNA, believed to be intended for torching the vehicle and destroying evidence.
Detective Constable Laura Burgess said: “This was a horrifically violent and calculated attack with no regard for public safety. The victim suffered severe injuries from shots fired aimlessly at the group. Jefferies’ role in attempting to cover up the crime through dangerous driving should not be underestimated.”
