Daredevil Cat Roo’s 25-Foot Tree Rescue Ends with Daring Leap
A tortoiseshell cat named Roo, inspired by a lovable character from AA Milne’s Winnie the Pooh, gave her owners a fright after getting stranded 25 feet up a tree beside a raging river in Bryncethin.
Missing Moggy Found High and Mighty
Roo vanished on Thursday, 4 February, sparking panic among her owners. The next evening, she was spotted stuck in a towering tree in Blackmill’s Meadow View area. With the river flowing fast below, the situation was tense.
Firefighters Race In for Purrfect Rescue
The RSPCA enlisted the help of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. Ogmore Vale firefighters arrived with ladders, ready to save the stranded cat. But Roo had other plans.
Cat Takes Charge with a Heart-Stopping Leap
Roo calmly waited for rescuers to get close, then boldly jumped to an adjacent branch. As firefighters scrambled to position a tarpaulin, she leapt a whopping 10 feet onto a parked car’s bonnet—before darting straight home.
The adventurous feline suffered only a small paw cut and was given a clean bill of health.
“We’re hugely grateful to South Wales Fire and Rescue for their help with Roo,” said Gemma Black, RSPCA inspector. “Her owners were worried sick after she disappeared and was found so high up near a treacherous river. Roo had other ideas, though—taking matters into her own paws!”
“Thankfully, Roo is back home safe and sound. As Winnie the Pooh said, ‘Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart!’ Roo certainly fits that bill.”
