Racist Rant from Knife Suspect in Nottingham
Police officers faced a torrent of racial abuse after arresting a man suspected of wielding a knife in Sneinton, Nottingham.
Knife Man Flees in Range Rover, Gets Nabbed
At around 11.45pm on Friday, May 14, Nottinghamshire Police were called to reports of a man banging on a door while carrying a knife in Sneinton Dale. The 32-year-old then allegedly fled in a white Range Rover but was soon stopped by officers.
He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, and for the original knife offence.
Verbal Racism Spurs Second Arrest
Once in custody, the suspect reportedly unleashed a stream of racial abuse directed at the officers. This prompted further action with a separate arrest for racist behaviour.
Detective Superintendent Mike Allen said: “Racism is utterly deplorable. We take zero tolerance towards anyone being racist to the public or our staff.”
“Police work tirelessly every day to keep people safe. It is unacceptable that anyone would disrespect them like this.”
“We are treating this incident very seriously and will thoroughly investigate to ensure the right action is taken.”
“We’ll also support the welfare of our officers throughout.”
“Anyone who witnessed the incident should contact Nottinghamshire Police immediately.”
