Boy, 9, Killed in Horrific Dog Attack in Caerphilly

Tragedy struck in Caerphilly when 9-year-old Jack Lis was fatally mauled by a dog on 8 November. The savage attack happened at a house in Pentwyn, Penyrheol, leaving the young pupil of Cwm Ifor Primary School dead at the scene.

Two Charged Over Deadly Dog Attack

A 28-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, both from the Caerphilly area, have been charged with causing death by being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control. They are due to appear before Newport magistrates on 7 April, having been released on bail.

The 19-year-old also faces five additional charges connected to the dog being dangerously out of control between 4 and 7 November — including two separate counts of causing injury.

Dog Shot Dead by Armed Police

Armed officers shot and killed the dog at the scene to prevent further harm. Gwent Police Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Mark Hobrough issued a stern warning about social media activity, urging the public to avoid comments that could prejudice the ongoing trial.

The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings are active and all the defendants have a right to a fair trial,” he said.

“Our investigation is still active, and we will speak to any other person of interest as inquiries continue. We ask people to consider the impact of their social media posts on the investigation and on Jack’s grieving family.”

Other Suspects Released Without Charge

Two other men, both 18, arrested on suspicion of involvement, have been released without charges. A 35-year-old man from Mountain Ash, who voluntarily attended a police interview, has also been released.

This heartbreaking case has rocked the Caerphilly community as the investigation continues. Our thoughts remain with Jack’s family, friends, and schoolmates.
