Blaze Rips Through Barking Flat – Balcony Reduced to Ashes
Six fire engines and 40 firefighters raced to a blazing flat on Abbey Road, Barking yesterday evening. Half of a second-floor, four-room flat went up in flames, with the balcony completely destroyed.
Residents Flee as Flames Engulf Flat
About 50 residents evacuated the block before the fire brigade arrived. Miraculously, no injuries were reported despite the fierce blaze.
Firefighters Quell Flames in Just Over an Hour
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers handled 22 urgent calls. They arrived at 7.34pm to find a full-blown blaze on the balcony and inside the flat. Crews from East Ham, Ilford, Plaistow, and nearby stations battled the fire, bringing it under control by 8.51pm.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains unknown. The Brigade and the Metropolitan Police are now probing the incident.
