A horror crash unfolded at 1pm today when a man in his 80s was struck by a car in the Tesco Superstore car park in Elmers End. The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition after the shocking smash.

Met Police were quick on the scene, shutting down the car park to make way for a helicopter landing. London’s Air Ambulance joined crews on the ground to give vital emergency care. The elderly man was whisked to a major trauma centre. His next of kin have been informed.
